Armed with worksheets, our Year 7 and 8 students had busy 90 minute sessions over the last two days, working around a variety of hands-on mathematical activities that challenged them to do some practical problem-solving in groups.
The World of Maths Roadshow set up seventeen colourful displays with corresponding worksheets belonging to the curriculum strands of: number, space, measurement, chance and data and logical thinking and sequencing. The instructions and questions on the displays made each session a guided discovery lesson, where the students worked as a team to solve a variety of problems, discover number patterns, identify geometric properties, think logically and apply mathematics to practical real-life situations.
Whilst it taxed them mentally, it was also a great deal of fun and the students thoroughly enjoyed this interactive experience.
