New Zealand Junior Girls Futsal Champions!

March 27, 2019 at 11:43 AM

Unbeaten throughout the national tournament, our Junior Girls Futsal team has returned from the New Zealand Secondary Schools Junior Competition in Wellington as champions!

On their final day of play they beat Wellington East Girls 12-1 and Diocesan 8-1 to face Marlborough Girls in the semi-final, which they won 17-0. In the final they were re-matched with Wellington East Girls and having beaten them in pool play, they went into the game confident that they could do well – and do well they did, notching up one more goal from their earlier encounter to win 13-1 and secure the national title! To top off the win, Emma Pijnenburg received MVP and Golden Boot for the tournament! Well done girls!

Futsal
Futsal is a variant of football played on a hard court, usually indoors, in an area smaller than a football pitch. Played between two teams of five players, which includes the goalkeeper.  Durign the game, unlimited substitutions are permitted.

Futsal is played with a smaller, harder, low-bounce ball which when played on the hard surface, favours good ball control, technique and passing in small spaces.
