The start of the school year also marks the beginning of an exciting new era at the Girls’ School. Among the new entrants, new uniforms and new stationery is a new Principal. Miss Juliet Small BEd (Otago), Dip Tchg is the second Principal to lead the school, following the resignation of inaugural Principal, Dr Sandra Hastie last year. The Trust Board appointed Miss Small from a strong field of applicants with extensive skills and experience. Miss Small stood out for her personal and professional qualities, and leadership expertise. She was delighted to be offered the opportunity to join a leading independent school.
With 12 years’ experience as a principal of primary schools in Auckland, she is well placed to advance and grow the reputation of the Girls’ School. For the last eight years, she has been Principal of Sunnyhills School and was also Principal of Oranga School for four years. In both of these roles she has clearly demonstrated the ability to create a school vision and be an effective leader.
In the second half of 2015, she completed a Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (Counselling) at the University of Auckland, which has given her a unique skillset to provide mentorship to staff and students alike. She is also an accomplished violinist, playing with the Auckland Symphony Orchestra for eight years.
We are pleased to welcome Miss Small to the Saint Kentigern community and know that she is eager to meet the students and their families as she embarks on this new stage of her career.
