There's something deeply sentimental about the warmth of a grandparent's hug, their signature chocolate chip cookies, and the way they hold you close when you need it most. The love they have for their grandchildren is immeasurable, and the connection they share is truly special. Some say that genes tend to skip a generation; maybe that's why grandparents and grandchildren often find each other so endearing.
Recognising the significance of this unique bond, the Girls' School upholds an annual tradition of inviting the grandparents of every student to join in a morning of merriment. The program included a full school assembly featuring excerpts from the 2023 musical Annie, ensemble performances, and a warm welcome from student leaders Amelia Hardie and Sophia Evans. Principal Ms. Juliet Small, who recently joined the 'grandparent club' herself, extended her heartfelt welcome to the guests, reflecting on her own experiences as a new grandmother. The love portrayed as she spoke of her own family set the tone for the affection shared by all the grandparents present.
After the initial gathering, grandparents, along with their student hosts, explored the various learning spaces at the school. The girls proudly showcased their written work, artwork, science fair projects, and a wide range of other accomplishments from this year.
Following an insightful tour of the facilities and classrooms, grandparents were treated to a delicious morning tea spread, courtesy of the Girls' School Parents and Friends (P&F). Each cup of coffee was delivered with a warm smile, and a profound sense of gratitude for the invaluable role these special individuals play in each child's life. P&F also organised polaroid cameras on each of the school levels for the girls and their grandparents to capture sweet memories and take them home. This morning remains a cherished highlight on our calendar, and we eagerly anticipate welcoming everyone back for our 2024 event.
