Leading Cricket Coach Joins Saint Kentigern

August 17, 2017 at 4:35 PM

Saint Kentigern boys and girls who play cricket are about to reap the benefit of highly experienced cricket coach, Mark Greatbatch. Mark will join Saint Kentigern  in early September as the new Cricket Development Officer. Mark comes to us after an 18 year career as a First Class player and 10 years as an International player.

After his playing career came to an end, Mark went on to add coaching at the highest level to his impressive CV. New Zealand Junior Cricket Coach of the Year, New Zealand Black Caps Batting Coach New Zealand Black Caps Head Coach and New Zealand Black Caps Chairman of Selectors are possibly the ones parents will be aware of. He has also been involved in coaching as Central District Coaching Director, Central Districts STAGS Head Coach, Director of Cricket at Giggleswick School in North Yorkshire, Academy Director of Warwickshire County Cricket Club and Director of Cricket for Warwickshire County Cricket Club.

Clearly Mark comes to us a former player and coach of the highest calibre and is looking forward to using this experience to develop the cricket skills of all our young players, both boys and girls, and to also encourage them to develop them as people through their cricket experience.  He said, ‘I want to challenge the young men and young women to work hard to be better cricketers and better people in a competitive environment.’

Mark takes up the reins on September 11 which is the week after our Winter Tournament week. He is confident that we will be ready for Term 4 cricket and we are extremely optimistic that the development of boys and girls cricket is in good hands.
