Our premier choir, Kentoris, has recently been selected to participate in a masterclass with the world renowned vocal ensemble The King's Singers. The King's Singers are a British acapella vocal ensemble founded in 1968. They are named after King's College in Cambridge, England, where the group was formed by six choral scholars. Kentoris is one of only six choirs in Auckland (of all ages and levels) to be selected to work with these international superstars of the choral world!
The masterclass will take place in St Mary's Church Parnell next to Holy Trinity Cathedral on 28 June. The choir will have a break-out session where one of the King's Singers will tutor the choir on vocal technique, style and performance, focusing on one to three short works. Kentoris will then present one of their pieces to the audience to be commented on by all six King's Singers. Our choir will then see a demonstration from the group with the opportunity for a question and answer time with them.
Observers are welcome to attend the masterclasses and will be able to move freely between workshops, sampling the different approaches of each member of the ensemble. Registration for observers have been opened on 1 May at www.nzcf.org.nz.
The King's Singers are also performing a concert at the Auckland Town Hall that evening of their current touring programme: 'The American Songbook'.
