Stunning weather all week, House competitions, beach cricket, glow worm walks and camping under the stars were all a part of the Year 5 – 8 Girls’ School camps. The Year 5 and 6 girls went to Shakespear Lodge in Whangaparaoa which has it all - farmland, bushes and beaches right at their doorstep.
The girls enjoyed many activities including orienteering, raft building, archery, kayaking, climbing, swimming and a glow worm walk. Even though some of the students were out of their comfort zones - adventure camps, being one with nature and putting yourself in situations you wouldn’t normally do helps build confidence, determination and teamwork.
The Year 7 and 8 girls joined together for a week at McLaren Falls in Tauranga. McLaren Falls Park is an idyllic venue where the girls had the opportunity to experience a variety of water sports. The girls all jumped at the opportunities to give windsurfing, paddle boarding, surfing and Frisbee golf a go. During their time at camp, the girls were given the opportunity to develop their confidence, responsibility and initiative both in individual and group activities.
The girls camped in tents for the duration of their stay and looked after their campsites but on the last night the Year 8 girls got the opportunity to sleep under the stars. Each student was also responsible for cooking her own breakfast, lunch and dinner - under parent/teacher supervision.
Cargill won the House competitions, which was a combination of paddle board races, team initiatives, fire starts and swamp running, they also won the House skits! Well done Cargill.
