Game designer and artist, Oscar Sims has created a video game which was selected to be shown at 'Semi-Arcade’ this month. Semi-Arcade is a unique gaming experience that gives the public a chance to play the games for free in custom-built arcade machines.
The Year 12 student, along with his team mates, were one of only five game jam teams selected from the Global Game Jam contest which challenged teams to make a game in 48 hours. The theme of the contest, run by Media Design School, was, 'We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are'.
Oscar’s video game was then perfected with programming and audio assistance and launched at the opening on 20 February. The game, ‘Pigvane’, is described as ‘blasting your way through five levels of immense difficulty in this classic scrolling shooter with a modern design aesthetic.’
Media Design School’s Domestic Relationship Manager, Zoe Hoeberigs said this was a great achievement for Oscar.
‘We had a great reception at the launch of Semi-Arcade and I managed to introduce Oscar and his team mates to some great games industry people so hopefully it was beneficial for them,’ she said.
