Fantastic Boys’ School Year 4 Camp!

March 16, 2018 at 3:01 PM

The Year 4 boys from the Boys’ School had an absolutely fantastic three nights away on camp this week up at the Peter Snell Youth Village in Whangaparaoa. For most of these boys, it is their first experience of being away from home in a camp setting – and we were really impressed with how well they handled the experience!

Having dodged Cyclone Hola, on arrival, the boys were assigned their cabins before heading away for lunch on the beach before on an uphill hike to take in the incredible vistas across our beautiful Hauraki Gulf. On return to camp, the boys had fun on the first two activities in a series of ten that would span the next two days. Ranging from orienteering, archery, a Burma trail, bivouac building, wall climbing, rifles, slingshot paintball, slippery slide and an initiative course, the activities were all designed with boys in mind to keep them active, engaged and challenged.

With the beach on the doorstep, there were also opportunities for the action of beach sports, the creativity if sandcastle competitions and a challenge of getting out on the water in kayaks. As some respite to the action, the boys also had a quieter moment putting their culinary skills to work on the hobo stoves to make themselves some pikelets!

With the weather in our favour, the entire camp was an outstanding success. The boys developed a growing sense of independence along with a love of camping that has set them up well for future EOTC experiences. Our thanks to the staff and parents involved for the part they played in making this such an enjoyable experience for the boys.
