December 01, 2015 at 4:12 PM

Saint Kentigern is very proud and appreciative of the loyalty of our long-serving staff members. At a special morning tea at the Boys’ School today, a number of people who have dedicated decades of service to Saint Kentigern were recognised for their devotion to our organisation and to their craft.

Mrs Pilkington started in 1990 as a part-time remedial reading teacher who also took afternoon sport. In 1992 she became a Christian education teacher and in 2001 became a full-time member of staff in charge of learning support and values as well as continuing to teach Christian education until 2005. Principal Mr Peter Cassie thanked Mrs Pilkington for her ’25 years of incredible service’. ‘We really live the values that we so often talk about and that is due to you and what you provide. You are the role model. I’ve never seen such an efficient department as learning support, which provides so much extra for the boys. You are an amazing teacher.’ Mrs Pilkington said she wakes up every day feeling happy and excited about her work. ‘Time flies when you’re having fun and that is how it feels to me. I have made some wonderful friends, there is great congeniality. I always refer to this as my God-given job.’

Mrs Castle has taught Year 2 boys for her entire 25 years at the School, having started in 1991. ‘You are firm and fair and I constantly get comments from parents about how amazing you have been for their children,’ said Mr Cassie. ‘It is a true credit to your professionalism.’ Mrs Castle said: ‘The thing I love about this school is the children and the parents’ interest in their child’s education. That is what has kept me here.’

Mrs Baker has worked in learning support since joining Saint Kentigern in 1995. ‘You do a fantastic job with the boys and show genuine care and compassion and a real interest and enthusiasm,’ said Mr Cassie. ‘Thank you for 20 years of superb service.’ Mrs Baker feels blessed to have the ‘best job in the world’. ‘The opportunities I have had here are absolutely amazing. It is a beautiful environment that is created here for our boys and I feel very fortunate to be a part of it. Most of all I feel incredibly lucky to work among the people I work with.’

Teachers Louise Miles and Sue O’Connor and caretaker Esmond Bunning were also recognised for their 10 years of service. ‘It has been a real honour to do this today and acknowledge such excellence,’ concluded Mr Cassie.
