College Touch Team Auckland Champs

DSC_1000.JPGCongratulations to the Premier Touch Boys Team who have just won the Auckland Championships and qualified as the top seed for the National competition in December.

Following on from winning the Eastern Zone last week, the team went through this latest tournament unbeaten.  Conditions were extremely hot at  Moire Park in Massey where the boys beat St Pauls, James Cook and Otahuhu in pool play.  They then stepped up and beat King’s College in the semi-final 4-1 before beating Auckland Boys Grammar 7-4 in the final.

The girls team were also unbeaten on the day but ended up in second place on a count back of points for and against the top teams.  The girls were in just one pool with the last game a repeat of the New Zealand final in 2013 against MAGS. A lot was riding on this final game between two strong girls’ teams who had well and truly beaten all other teams in the competition.  In a well matched final, the game ended in a 3-all draw but, disappointingly for the girls, the team placing 2nd on countback.

Both of our College Touch teams now qualify for the National Championship at Bruce Pulman Park in Papakura in December.
