Renowned motivational youth speaker, Darren Pereira was back on College grounds this week hosting the ‘Shape Your Destiny’ workshop for the Year 12 senior students. At a time of year when these students are making final subject choices for their last year of study, the workshop is specifically designed to help the students discover their purpose, set goals and create action plans for now and beyond College life.
This is the third year that Darren has been invited to the College to present his successful and energetic programme that is considered to be one of the most effective seminars run throughout Australia and New Zealand as it addresses the cause of why many students lack motivation at school and are unclear about their future. Darren believes the success of the Shape Your Destiny seminar lies in the student’s ability to be inspired and take immediate action with what he calls the ‘3Cs’ for success. These are:
Clarity - direction in their life;
Character - the resilience to follow through on their goals; and
Competence - the skills to be able to take effective action
Over the course of a morning, the quick witted presenter took the Year 12 students on an entertaining and encouraging journey of self-discovery to help empower them to make life shaping choices about their future. To get the students engaged, a professional DJ pumped out the music on stage because ‘music has a very instant impact on the way you feel,’ says Darren ‘and creates a fun and high energylearning environment.’
The students thoroughly enjoyed the vibrancy that Darren used to deliver his message and the buzz as they left the Chapel suggests his aim to engage and motivate was highly successful.
