The Service efforts at the College have a large and wide variety of recipients, and most recently included readers at the Mt Eden Prison Library. The College library has had an association with its counterparts at Mt Eden since we offered to rehome some of our withdrawn books there a few years ago, which has since become an annual donation.
This year, the College librarians asked if members of the Saint Kentigern community had books they would also like to contribute to the cause, and were met with an overwhelming response. The hundreds of books that were donated were formed into a ‘tower of hope’, and included a number of choice authors and titles! This week, Cecilia Gulley and Julie France from the prison library came to the College to receive the books as well as a donation of 160 notebooks and 200 pens. ‘This is brilliant,’ said Mrs Gulley. ‘We really feel the aroha of the Saint Kentigern community. The book and notepads will be greatly appreciated by our readers.’
