With thanks to Music Teacher Mr Lachlan Craig
Our College choirs displayed their melodic excellence to a full and welcoming Chapel at the recently held Choral Showcase.
Under the expert tuition of Old Collegian and Choral Director Lachlan Craig, the College’s four choirs A Minor, Musettes, Menasing and Kentoris performed their repertoire with the refined vocal talent they are well-known for.
A Minor had its debut performance singing Benjamin Britten’s Old Abram Brown and Samoan Folksong Pusi Nofo. Harrison Griffiths and Mia Sundin were both soloists.
Musettes sang a range of music including a Venezuelan call to peace and prayer with solos by Victoria Zhu, Annelise Katz and Emily Young, and an exciting Mendelssohn lieder.
Manase Latu, overall winner of the 2013 Solo Music Competition, treated the audience to a solo performance of Where’re You Walk and The Silver Swan.
Menasing opened with a fully choreographed rendition of the Gentlemen of Japan from Gilbert and Sullivan’s Mikado, and also sang two folksongs, one a Maori hymn ‘Aue Ihu’ from the 28th Maori Battalion, and the other an Irish folksong ‘Down by the Sally Gardens’.
Kentoris was the highlight of the evening, performing Mendelssohn’s Verleih uns Frieden complete with cello duet, Eric Whitacre’s Hebrew Love Songs, commissioned work ‘Hot and Cold’ by Andrew Baldwin and Michael Tippett’s ‘Steal Away’ with a very strong solo from Manase.
At the end of the night, the Kentoris Old Collegians were given an opportunity to reminisce when Lachlan invited members from the audience to come up and join in the encore with Kentoris to sing ‘Praise His Holy Name.’
