After the disappointment of camp being cancelled due to our short lockdown in Term 1, the boys were really buzzing about finally heading off to camp - and what a fantastic week it was for us! The sun shone non-stop for four days while the Year 4 boys spent the week at Peter Snell Youth Village in Whangaparoa making the most of every activity.

The boys all worked together throughout the week in their ‘survivor’ tribes - Megalodon, Phoenix, Loch Ness and the Dragons. On the first day, the boys had their first opportunity to collaborate with their tribe to design and paint their tribe banners. Every day there was a tribal council where boys were awarded the ‘Camp Legend’ of the day from each tribe. The ‘Camp Legends’ were acknowledged for leadership, listening, perseverance, being respectful and working well with their tribe mates. They were awarded for their behaviour by getting to choose a prize from the almighty Survivor chest. All the boys also had the chance to search for hidden immunity idols each day, which would allow them to also choose a prize from the treasure chest.

Our camp was full of exciting activities such as slingshot paintball, air rifle shooting, archery, beach hunt, cooking on hobo stoves, bivouac building and the Burma trail. One of the highlights was the legendary and very steep water slide! Even Mr Hansen had a go!

Another highlight was the hike we did at Shakespear Regional Park where we got appreciate the 360-degree view from the lookout at the top. There was a buzz amongst the boys all week and they all were very deserving of their Survivor medallion presented to them at the final tribal council.
