Boys’ School Leavers’ Tie Presentation

November 20, 2017 at 1:12 PM

With the school year coming to an end, our Year 8 boys are beginning to get ready for the next step in their education, as they begin the transition to college. This morning, a special Chapel was held in their honour, to thank the Year 8 graduates for all they have done for the School, especially in this last year in a leadership capacity.

The focus of the Chapel was the presentation of the leavers’ ties; one they will now wear at all formal functions for the rest of the year. As the Year 3 boys are also graduating from Junior to Middle School, the presentation of the tie is a privilege reserved for them; a task they performed with pride. As each of the 115 senior boys came forward, the Year 3 boys joined them to shake their hands and gift the tie, pausing momentarily to face the rest of the School. Head Boy, George Beca said in his address that he remembered well the part he played as a Year 3 and how significant it felt at the time.

Dean of Senior School, Mr Richard Kirk explained to the leavers that they are embarking on a new chapter next year, saying ‘You go from being the leaders here, to the youngest members of a new school where you will meet new people, new staff and have great expectations placed upon you. Take with you the values you have learnt and know that no matter which direction life takes you, you will always be a Son of Kentigern.’
