Every year the Auckland Writers Festival stage hundreds of public events, gathering some of the world’s best writers and thinkers with festival goers, to celebrate the world of books and ideas.
This week, the Boys’ School Year 7/8 Enrichment students were fortunate to attend the Intermediate Schools programme at the Festival. Fifty students attended presentations by current New Zealand authors and poets such as Jesse O, Shilo Kino, Toby Morris and Paula Green. Some students were also lucky enough to attend writing workshops in smaller groups, which extended and inspired their writing. The highlight for many was the presentation by American author Brian Selznick (The Adventures of Hugo Cabret) who, owing to COVID travel restrictions, held a dynamic session while beaming in from Rome!
The boys returned to school inspired and motivated to write creatively and to strive for success in the many writing opportunities the Enrichment programme provides.
