Despite illness and injury reducing the numbers of College Triathletes competing at the Auckland Secondary Schools Triathlon Championships, the squad still competed across all age groups.
The most pleasing aspect of the day was the improvement that has taken place in such a short time, with many triathletes improving in fitness, ability and technical skill. Whilst that alone was enough to make the coaches very pleased and proud, some top results were also gained.
Dylan McCullough continued his fine form, winning the Junior Boys’ 400m swim, 10km bike and 4km run, over 2 minutes clear of his nearest rival! Ryan Church used every ounce of his base training to battle resolutely into 3rd place in the same race. Well done boys!
Joshua Chapman and Maddy Evans gained 3rd place in the Senior Boys’ and Girls’ 750m swim, 20km bike and 6km run respectively. Congratulations on podium finishes in a large, competitive field.
There were plenty of top 5 and top 10 finishes in some divisions that had particularly large fields, indicating that the training for our triathletes is on target for the Nationals at the end of the month.
As always, the coaches and triathletes are willingly and ably supported by a dedicated group of parents, without whose help things simply would happen as they do. Thank you all for another enjoyable day.
