November 02, 2016 at 10:09 AM

Year 11 College student, Andrew Chen has continued his outstanding form in the Australian Mathematics Competition (AMC), being awarded a medal for the second year in a row!

The renowned competition was undertaken by around 300,000 students this year in more than 30 countries around the world. The paper consists of 30 questions, ordered in increasing difficulty, which must be answered in 75 minutes. Each year a select number of students are awarded medals for their performance. The number of medals allocated is equivalent to a standard achieved by 1 in 10,000 entrants, the top 0.1 per cent.

Andrew was one of 18 competitors across the world to receive a medal in the intermediate section (Year 10-11). He was the only New Zealander to medal in the intermediate category

Andrew also won the junior division of the Auckland Mathematics Olympiad earlier in the year and was selected as part of the New Zealand team to travel to Hong Kong!

Well done, Andrew!
