Aida

September 14, 2012 at 11:56 AM

A contemporary, musical take on Verdi's classic tale of the timeless bond between an enslaved Nubian princess and a high ranking Egyptian soldier, Elton John and Tim Rice's version of Aida was a perfect production choice for this year's senior musical.  With a pop-rock score that featured stirring ballads and rousing choral numbers, the stage was set for an exuberant show that told a tale of true devotion. Would love blossom or would the young lovers be forced to part forever? Each is forced to choose between love for their country and love for each other as the vast cultural differences of their two warring nations threaten to doom them for eternity.

Strong performances and strong voices were the hallmark of this show along with superb orchestral backing, original choreography and striking costuming. Technology once again came to the fore with dynamic lighting adding to the stage craft.

Head of Music, Ross Gerritsen is well known for delivering big shows to the Saint Kentigern stage and this year was no exception. We'd like to thank Mr Gerritsen for his work as Producer, Musical Director and Set Designer who, along with Ms Emma Bishop (Director and Costume Designer) and Ms Rochelle Craig (Choreographer) led a large team of staff and students through the mammoth task of presenting this fabulous musical.
