15 hour art challenge set for College students

February 18, 2014 at 3:57 PM

Can an art masterpiece be created in the timeframe of half an hour? That was the challenge two Year 13 Arts Council students, Vinayak Garg and Mimi Seagar, tackled when they speed painted their way through the duration of this week’s Middle School Assembly.

The two artists were promoting the up and coming Parents and Friends 15 Hour Art Challenge in which students are to produce an original piece of art. Described as a 15 hour challenge of skill and creativity, the rules are firm -  all work must be produced on site in the Jack Paine Centre and only over the approved weekend timeframes on Saturday 8 - Sunday 9 March.

The theme is ‘Something Novel’ and submissions are open to all artwork categories including but not limited to sculpture, digital drawing, photography and painting. There are monetary prizes to be won, and the students will have the opportunity to sell their work to the Parents and Friends Association.

Competition entries may be as a group or as an individual with a maximum of three people per group. Entry forms must be in by Monday 24 February. A full list of what the College will provide and what you may need to bring on the day will be on the entry form. More information can be found on the OLE.

At the close of assembly, Vinayak and Mimi took to the lectern to present their finished artwork and describe what they portrayed. Mimi said her painting captured her viewpoint looking out from the stage across the sea of blue and grey. Vinayak described his piece as a surprised student in the audience, however, Mr McQueen said it reminded him more of Edvard Munch’s iconic ‘The Scream!’

When: Saturday 8th March: 9.00am – 6.00pm and Sunday 9th March: 9.00am – 3.00pm
Where: Jack Paine Centre, College Campus
