Music

Developing a passion for music early in life opens up a lifetime of pleasure. Our music programme is diverse and exciting and we encourage our girls to explore and develop skills and talent in musical performance whilst those with a love of singing are encouraged to join the choir. Our specialist music centre comprises a large multi-functional teaching room and four smaller practice studios where itinerant music lessons are held.

Instrumental Music Programme

The wide-ranging itinerant music programme enables our girls to become actively involved in learning an instrument or taking vocal lessons with specialist music teachers. All Year 4 students participate in the strings starter programme after which many of our girls take advantage of private music lessons.

From Year 5 – 8 all students learn an orchestral instrument which results in students becoming capable musicians in their senior years. Our orchestra works towards extending their repertoire each year and enjoys performing at school events.

Choral Music Programme

Many of our girls have a true love of singing and are enthusiastic members of our School choir. The choir is important and prestigious for its members; they sing at our family services, school concerts, the Christmas carol service and concerts and assemblies throughout the year. The School show provides every student with an opportunity to be part of a full-scale musical production.

From an early age, there is a thrill at being involved with a stage show, no matter which role is taken on. The buzz that pervades the Girls’ School in a show year is testament to this! We also welcome our parents' involvement in costume making, preparing the set and helping with hair and makeup, making this a real community event.

The music soirée is another opportunity for our music students to showcase their talents.

Classes, individuals, the choir and orchestra all combine to produce an evening of toe-tapping rhythm with a touch of razzamatazz.
