Co-curricular activity at the College is integral to the pursuit of a well-rounded, balanced education for our young adults. We provide a wide range of opportunities in the Arts for students to discover their potential, explore their interests and strive for excellence in their activity of choice.

The Performing Arts programme is well established and continues to grow in strength each year as new opportunities are provided for students to share their many talents.

Saint Kentigern is well-resourced to support these endeavours with purpose-built facilities and specialist staff providing the launching pad for student success in the Arts.

The Music Centre

The Music Centre provides superb facilities for individual and group practice as well as a performance auditorium for our extensive choral and instrumental programmes. Specialist music teachers offer individual tuition and there are many opportunities during the year to perform for an audience.

A unique and appealing feature of the College Music programme is the Saint Kentigern Pipes and Drums. The band is a key part of many events in the College calendar and forms one of Saint Kentigern’s strongest and proudest traditions.

Productions

The College has five major productions each year – A Senior School Play Series, a Senior School Musical, a Dance Showcase, a Middle School Musical and a combined Middle School Dance and Wearable Arts Show. Our performance venue, Elliot Hall, has professional sound and lighting equipment, along with purpose-built drama studios to aid their performances.

With two dedicated studios, one including a performance space, dance has flourished at the College. Our students are given ample opportunity to perform and are encouraged to take the leadership in student-led productions.

The Arts

Our Media Studies programme also crosses over to the Arts with the annual film evening ‘The Kents,’ run along similar lines to the Oscars. This is a showcase evening for the Media Studies film productions that brings artistic direction, filming and acting talent to the fore in yet another medium.

For those not so keen on the limelight but who wish to be involved, there are roles to play in lighting, sound, backstage, set design, costuming, makeup and front of house.

Students who are involved with the Arts are well placed to go on to contribute their vision, abilities and creative energies not only to arts initiatives but also to the industry as companies seek creative solutions to ensure their place in a competitive world.
