THE VALUES PROGRAMME

The Saint Kentigern Way Values Programme

The Saint Kentigern boy aims to be kind, loving, loyal, obedient, peaceful, forgiving, friendly, generous, helpful, humble.

Values education at Saint Kentigern School enables our children to understand their own values along with the values of others, to guide their attitudes and actions in regard to their society and environment.

We believe that Values education
is based on the Christian ethics of the School (The Saint Kentigern Way)
develops character and builds citizenship, leadership and critical thinking
provides a code for living together in the School a code of care and respect
develops purpose, consistency, unity and a sense of belonging
provides clear boundaries and expectations for behaviour
assists teachers to recognise the special characteristics and talents of every student

How the programme works
Identified values are introduced to the boys at our weekly Chapel services. They are then reinforced for the next three weeks through our House meetings and within their classroom programmes. Relevant stories, Bible verses and songs are used to help assimilate the value so that the boys have an understanding of the value that is being focused on.

During the year we focus on the following values:

Getting Along:
Caring
Helpfulness
Consideration
Trustworthiness
Persistance:
Perseverance
Purposefulness
Diligence
Organisation:
Orderliness
Determination
Self Discipline
Confidence:
Courage
Responsibility
Patience

Programmes that reinforce the Saint Kentigern Way:
 Cool Schools Peer Mediation
 Eliminating Violence
 You Can Do It
 No Blame Approach

The Values Tree: A Living Symbol
A large and gracious camphor tree has long stood watch in the grounds of Saint Kentigern School, a living reminder that even in times of great change, some things remain true....
