VISION 5

The Master Plan for Redevelopment at the School Campus, Remuera

The plan for redevelopment at the School campus in Remuera is the most significant and extensive planning since the School opened in 1959. Vision 5, the Master Plan for Campus Redevelopment, addresses the School’s long-term needs and will invigorate our existing academic, cultural and sporting facilities to provide a solid blueprint for the future.

The School is widely recognised for its unwavering pursuit of high standards; offered in a caring environment, where students enjoy the challenges and aspirations of achievement. It has been the vision and investment of many individuals, throughout the School’s relatively short history, that have kept us in a pre-eminent position in the community. Whilst we can look back with pride and satisfaction at our achievements over the past years, we understand that to be a truly dynamic, fresh and exciting place to learn, we must constantly re-evaluate and look to our future. We know that our future lies in ensuring that we go beyond expectations and become truly exceptional in every aspect of our delivery to students and their families. It is with this in mind that future plans have been visualised, as part of the continued growth and development of the School.

Vision 5 provides for redevelopment of the Shore Road site in five stages, with the first project being successfully completed in 2009.  The plan recognises that Saint Kentigern School has a unique setting and place in history. All development will ensure that the historical significance of Roselle House will be preserved, whilst improving the layout and functionality of the rest of the site.

Project 1:  The Jubilee Sports Centre

The cutting edge design and function of the Jubilee Sports Centre and Douglas Goodfellow Field (an all weather playing surface and large car park) make a striking mark on the local landscape. Opened officially on 11 September 2009, the Jubilee Sports Centre provides first class facilities for physical education and indoor sports and includes a full size gymnasium (890m2), two new classrooms, fitness centre, function centre, mezzanine viewing gallery and numerous changing rooms and storage facilities. The Jubilee Sports Centre was built with sustainability in mind and utilises the latest technologies for the benefit of our boys and the environment.

Project 2: New Middle School

This vital and much needed addition to the campus will allow the role to grow to 650 students. The new Middle School building is planned for development on the central site currently occupied by the Staff Room. This building will comprise 12 teaching and ancillary rooms on 3 levels for our Years 4, 5 and 6 boys. Following construction, the current Year 4 and 5 building will be demolished to create a new Middle School play area.

Project 3: Science, Art and Technology Centre
A new Science, Art and Technology Centre is planned to be built on the existing lower tennis court, adjacent to Roselle House. This purpose built, two storeyed building will house dedicated specialist rooms for Art, Technology and Sciences, easing pressure on the Senior School complex. Our specialist teaching staff and curriculum are at the heart of the many opportunities we offer our boys here at Saint Kentigern School.

Project 4: Information and Arts Conservatory
(Performing Arts, Library, ICT and Chaplain’s Common)

This will be the new ‘hub’ of the School housing a Conservatory for the Performing Arts, School Library, high tech ICT Suite, Chaplain’s Common and Staff Room. The current Year 6 classrooms will be demolished to enable an extension to the J C Chalmers Hall and a linking atrium will cater for students and guests entering the J C Chalmers Hall.

Project 5: Administration Centre

The Administration Offices, Uniform Shop and Reception areas will be relocated to the current Library building adjacent to Shore Road where parking will be readily available. This will create a traffic free campus for the duration of the school day. Roselle House will be home to a small museum, the archives, staff professional development training, the Principal’s home and the Boardroom.
