The KBB Music Festival is the pinnacle event for our large ensembles at the College. This year, we were represented by seven groups. Our premiere auditioned ensembles included the Symphony Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Band, and Big Band. We also had several of our all-comers ensembles perform, including the Symphonic Band, Jazz Orchestra, and MacFarlan Strings.
After their first round of performances, our Big Band, Concert Band, and Symphony Orchestra were invited to play in the KBB Gala concert on 17 August with the other top four groups from each category. Each of these three groups won gold awards for their efforts, the highest honour at the competition. The Symphony Orchestra was further recognised with a special award for the Best Performance of a Romantic Work for their performance of Overture to La Forza Del Destino (The Force of Destiny), while the Big Band received the Best Performance of a Swing Chart for their performance of Summer Wind.
Additionally, the Symphonic Band secured Silver, the String Ensemble and MacFarlan Strings both earned Bronze, and the Jazz Orchestra received a Commended.
Throughout the year, these groups have worked hard with their conductors to perfect their repertoire, often arriving at school early and staying late into the evening to practice. We extend our gratitude to the tutors in charge of these groups Ms Hayley Barker, Mr Albert Lee, Mr Matt Baker and Mrs Miranda Hutton and all our support staff involved.
