Four College students were chosen to compete in the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron HARKEN Schools Fleet Racing Regatta held on 9 and 10 March 2013. Tom Morton, skipper, Steph Kirkman, Bow, Nick Cotter, Main and Jack Hemsworth, Trim.
The regatta was aimed at promoting the RNZYS Lion Foundation Youth Training Programme to schools in the wider Auckland Region. The Youth Training Programme provided the boats, coaching staff and support boats. Ten schools from around New Zeeland competed over two fantastic days of sailing on the Auckland Harbour.
The weather was beautiful and after day one Saint Kentigern College was placed fourth. After ten full races the team moved up to sixth place, a remarkable effort considering the sailors had only had one training session. The training boat was kindly facilitated by Saint Kentigern recent old Collegian, George Brassell, who is currently training with the RNZYS youth training programme.
