More Skiing Medals for Boys’ School

September 01, 2017 at 3:12 PM

Following on from the success of the Year 7&8 ski teams the previous week, over the course of this week, the Middle School teams have been competing in the 2017 North Island Primary School Ski Championships.

With poor weather washing out the first day, the boys were excited to finally get onto the mountain for the start of the Giant Slalom on Tuesday. With crisp snow and blue skies both the ‘seniors’ (Year 5/6) and ‘Juniors’ (Years 3/4) were tested on fast courses. The boys raced hard and produced some excellent results. In the senior racing, Sebastian Lyne won gold and all team members finished inside the top 30. In the Juniors, Jonny Ormond claimed a Bronze and all team members finished inside the top 15!

Having worked so hard on Day 1, the teams were well placed to compete for high honours in the Dual Slalom. Racing against an evenly matched opponent over two legs saw some exciting and very close racing. By the end of racing, both our teams could have not have given more and were hoping that they had gained enough points for one of the top three places.

After an agonising wait, it was announced that the A team consisting of Sebastian Lyne, Morgan Lay, William Ormond, Thomas Bowden and Thomas Hageman, had won the overall team competition, by just one point from St Cuthbert’s College! This is the first time that a Middle School team has won. The B team consisting of Hugo Wigglesworth, Jaden Renault-Pollard, Jacob Burt, Jacob Hageman and Jonny Ormond, came a highly credited 7th

All of the boys can be proud of their efforts this week and for the way that they represented Saint Kentigern Boy’s School. Well done boys!
