The College Rowing Club enjoyed a successful weekend at the North Island Secondary School championships held on the familiar waters at Karapiro. Our rowers competed in a total of 62 races over a wide range of categories from Novice to U18 and went on to contest 15 A finals and 5 B finals; a very pleasing result at this level of competition.
Several notable performances over the weekend deserve recognition:
The North Island Secondary School Championships are the culmination of a long rowing season for many rowers and were this year contested by 90 secondary schools from across the entire North Island. Following on from our ‘Double Gold’ last year, it was fantastic to be able to again bring home Gold, Silver and Bronze this year. Most pleasing, of course, is that these medals were achieved by both boys and girls, and across all age groups.
Congratulations to all rowers in the club who competed this weekend so proudly for the College and special congratulations to all placegetters in all finals, and especially our medallists.
Selected rowers and coxswains now move on to the National Secondary Schools Championships in two weeks’ time at ‘Maadi’ and we wish them all the very best as they take on the country’s top crews.
