Generosity Abounds in Term 4 Foodbank Collection

October 28, 2022 at 4:20 PM

Service has been a longstanding pillar of Saint Kentigern, and our College Foodbank collection each term is one way we look to give back and contribute to families in need. At the final term Foodbank collection, a surprise sausage sizzle was served and students who came in early to drop off their donations were in for a treat.

Elliot Quad was a hive of activity before school that Friday. Live music set the joyous atmosphere with a saxophone soloist with piano accompaniment playing through the hour. Students streamed through to their House area, excited to add to the growing stacks of Weetbix, cans of baked beans and more.

The House prefects did a wonderful job packing the items collected and brought them to ‘The Shed’.  Every week our Bruce House boarders help pack 65 food boxes comprising a variety of food items and essentials to be delivered to families in need. There was enough Weetbix from this collection to top up the stocks for the Christmas Boxes.

The total number of items collected on the morning was 5,504, a superb effort by the students and staff. Cargill was the winning house, which was no surprise after seeing their imposing food tower that morning.

Seeing the joy on students’ faces as they dropped off, packed, and stored the food items was encouraging. Thank you to all the families who donated. Your continuous support means so much to the families who will receive these food boxes.
