The Kiwi CAM competitions in English, Maths and Science are organised by the University of Canterbury’s Centre for Assessment and Monitoring (CAM). This year the Kiwi CAM competitions were highly contested by over 19,300 students from over 480 schools throughout New Zealand, participating in multiple competitions and year groups.
In June this year, just under 100 Year 9 and 10 students from the College sat the Kiwi CAM competitions in English, Maths and Science. Those who scored in the top 10% gained an Excellence Award, and an exceptional score in the top 0.5% of a subject earned a Distinction Award.
Four students scored the top results in their respective fields in the country and received Distinction for their incredible efforts: Jens Zhao was awarded Distinction for Mathematics; Peter Hu was awarded Distinction for English and Excellence in Mathematics; Eason Liu received a Distinction in Mathematics and Excellence for both Science and English; and finally Arush Gupta received Distinction in Mathematics and Excellence for Science and English. A fifth student, Liam Zhao, was also awarded Distinction in Mathematics, finishing in close second behind Jens, and received an Excellence in Science.
In addition to the Distinction winning students, we had three more receive Excellence scores in two or more subjects. These were Bella Chen (Mathematics, Science), Ruby Ma (Mathematics, Science, English), and Andrew Li (Mathematics, Science, English).
Another group of students claimed Excellence in one subject and are listed below:
In English, Braith Chatterton, Otis Edwards, Alex Jap, Hannah Lucas, Mira Ren, and Nathan Wang.
In Mathematics, Ethan Chong, Chloe Huang, Cherie Jiang, Ivy Guo, Timothy Kavalenka, Bernard Wang, Aiden Wei, and Annie Yue.
In Science, Oliver White, Ryan Findlay, James Wang, Charlie Wu, and Andrew Xin.
Congratulations to all these students for their efforts, we are delighted to see so many of our Middle School students excel in these core academic subjects.
