The Saint Kentigern College Music Department wrapped up 2024 with two standout performances, showcasing the breadth of talent across the Middle and Senior Schools.
The Rock Showcase, held in the Music Centre, brought the energy with 16 bands, including three seasoned senior groups – 3 Day Rain, O.W.T., and Ice in a Cup – whose years of practice were evident in their polished performances. The remaining bands, formed during Term 3, impressed the crowd with their dedication, progressing remarkably in just a semester. With friends and family lining the balcony, the event was buzzing from the moment it started and was an incredible platform for our younger players to have live exposure.
The Middle School Music Showcase saw the Sports Centre transformed into a stage for a variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles. Beginning with the Second Pipe Band’s stirring tunes, the evening included performances by the Junior Jazz Combo, Jazz Orchestra, MacFarlan Strings, String Ensemble, Musettes and Symphonic Band. A highlight of the night were performances from the Middle School Solo Music Competition winners, Annie Ye, who won the piano category, and Maodong Li, who was the overall winner and winner of the string category.
Both events celebrated the dedication and passion of the students, directors and teachers. The College community looks forward to seeing these young musicians continue to thrive in 2025.
