Crowd Gets Behind 13 Band Rock Showcase

June 15, 2024 at 6:45 PM

On 14 June, the College Rock Showcase lit up Elliot Hall, with our band members commanding attention from centre stage as the first reverbs sounded. The electric atmosphere will be remembered by all who attended, with the crowd’s enthusiasm evident through their cheers, singing along, clapping, and hyping up the performers. For many bands, it was their first time performing on the Elliot Hall stage, making the evening even more special. Our bands have been hard at work, with some preparing throughout the term and others beginning their journey at the start of the year in anticipation of the Smokefree Rockquest.

The lineup for the evening featured an impressive array of talented bands: Saving Leftovers, Last Minute Delivery, Big Win, Oh Behave, 10/10, Cabbage Vendor, Agitated Skittles, Bland Cactus, Silver Linings, BACKS, Ice In A Cup, Airplane Mode, O.W.T., and 3 Day Rain.

Among these bands O.W.T. and 3 Day Rain recently performed at the Manukau Heats of the Smokefree Rockquest and made it through to the regional competition. They each have original music they have co-written and were able to perform on the night. 3 Day Rain performed their original ‘Dunes of Gold’ and O.W.T. their originals ‘With You’ and ‘Naïve.’

The Rock Showcase provided a night of thorough entertainment and an opportunity for the hard work and dedication of these talented students to be displayed. The audience was also introduced to the new teacher involved with the bands, Brett Vogel, who MC’d the night. Our thanks to the many staff involved in putting on an incredible night including itinerant teacher in charge of bands Geordie McCallum, and teachers Hugo Moore, Chelsea Prastiti, and Keith Milbank for their efforts throughout the year.
