The College’s Year 9 Mathex team proved exceptional at this year’s highly competitive Auckland Mathex competition, securing a well-deserved second place. The event, held on 21 August, saw 254 Year 9 and 10 teams from across Auckland battle it out for the coveted title of Mathex champions.
The team, consisting of Ruolin Xiao, Bella Chen, Arush Gupta, and runner Rex Zhou, trained diligently throughout the year to prepare for the challenge. Attending morning training sessions every Friday and lunchtime practices every Wednesday, the students were coached by Alan Chen, whose guidance played an integral role in their success.
At the competition, the students worked cohesively to solve complex mathematical problems under intense time pressure. Their ability to collaborate effectively and think quickly earned them second place, narrowly behind the first-place team from ACG Parnell, with Pinehurst finishing in third.
Congratulations to Ruolin, Bella, Arush, and Rex on their incredible achievement and we look forward to seeing their continued success in future competitions.
