On 1 November, the Pakuranga Campus welcomed alumni from the Class of 1999 for their eagerly awaited 25-year reunion. This occasion provided a meaningful opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and witness the remarkable growth and transformation of the place that defined their college years.
The afternoon began in the Chapel, where Executive Trustee Dr Kevin Morris shared an update on the Saint Kentigern organisation and College Principal Damon Emtage on the vision for the future of the College. Director of the Saint Kentigern Foundation, Walter Chieng and President of the Saint Kentigern Alumni Association (SKA), Thomas Steel added their welcomes.
The updates highlighted the exciting Pakuranga Campus building developments, particularly the innovative learning spaces set to replace the Goodfellow Centre. Damon described the concept as being “built upon a village square… everyone is known, there is a seamless transition between being inside and outside, it's a hive of activity, and it’s a design that will give our students agency to take care of their learning and connect with their peers.” Alumni were reminded of their essential role within the Saint Kentigern ‘village,’ which aspires to nurture the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and entrepreneurs.
A guided campus tour, led by Walter Chieng and Associate Principal, Duncan McQueen, offered alumni the chance to revisit familiar spaces and explore cutting-edge facilities, including the science and technology buildings.
The reunion continued as Past Headmasters Mr Nigel Toy and Rev. David Williams and past teachers joined the alumni during refreshments. It was a heartwarming opportunity for alumni to reconnect with their former teachers, who shared captivating stories and fond memories from their time at the College. Deputy Head Boy of 1999, Sam Holloway, took to the podium to address his classmates. Their reflections highlighted the enduring sense of community and connection that continues to define our school.
The Class of ’99 departed the campus to continue their celebrations into the evening, carrying with them cherished memories and a shared pride in the enduring legacy of their College years. A special thanks is extended to Michael Lim for his outstanding efforts in bringing the day to life.
