Today, the Boys’ School were pleased to welcome students from Southwell School, an Independent School for boys and girls in Years 1-8, located in the heart of Hamilton City.
There has been a long association between Saint Kentigern and Southwell. In 2015, former Boys’ School Principal, Mr Geoff Burgess, who was also formerly Principal of Southwell School, presented a cup in the name of his sons who attended both Southwell and Saint Kentigern. Now The Burgess Brothers’ Cup is keenly contested each winter between the two sides!
The day dawned dry for Shore Road, despite the torrential rain in other parts of the city, making fantastic conditions for players and spectators alike. Teams were fielded from Years 5-8 with nine teams playing across rugby, football and hockey. Competition was keen! Very keen!
When the final whistle blew on the final game, a busy day concluded. With the results tallied, it was Saint Kentigern who had the edge on this occasion, retaining the cup.
As always we enjoyed hosting Southwell today and it was great to see so many of their parents had made the journey to watch their sons and daughters play. We wish them safe travels as they return to Hamilton and look forward to the next exchange.
