Overview

Like many secondary schools in New Zealand, Saint Kentigern College has debated the introduction of NCEA at some length. We have determined that following a New Zealand curriculum is the key element in obtaining a high quality New Zealand education. Thus we have poured resource and energy into ensuring our staff are well skilled to make NCEA work for our students.
Results are proving that this decision was sound our students have gained excellent grades since the inception of NCEA.

Subject Range

The College offers a broad range of studies for students at all levels. From classics to physical education and dance, chemistry and applied mathematics, media studies and electronic engineering, our students are not short of choices as they enter their senior years.

In addition to the core curriculum subjects, Years 7 and 8 are introduced to all specialist subjects through carefully designed taster programmes. These allow students to experience specialist areas before embarking on a progressive assessment course as they progress through the school years.

Our facilities are well equipped and allow for extensive practical involvement. With the benefit of the computer notebook programme, students are introduced to subject learning styles in a multitude of ways.

Homework is a compulsory requirement of all Saint Kentigern College students, at all levels. Each student is issued with a personal diary to record homework, and this diary is checked regularly by tutors.

Our teachers are all fully qualified subject specialists, committed to helping our students achieve their full potential.

Reports are sent to parents twice during each year and there are several opportunities for parents to meet with teachers to discuss their childs progress. The importance of the partnership between parent and teachers cannot be overstated students whose parents are involved, tend to find it easier to stay motivated.
