The New Zealand climate provides superb conditions for year round play. Our Academy offers top level coaching and competition play in Tennis and Golf for students who excel in their chosen sport. Our coaching and academic staff are both supportive and demanding, and are committed to the growth and development of each player. They recognise that to excel in sport requires time, effort, dedication and determination. It also requires expert coaching, investment in time and the availability of specialist services and resources.
The Academy is selective, ensuring dedicated coaching and providing a pathway for top players to receive the attention necessary to get to the top and stay at the top. Our high performance programmes focus on individual player development, channelling energy towards sporting success while ensuring that balance is achieved within a sound academic programme.
Most international students enter a specially designed and balanced programme in Academy classrooms, concentrating on English (at least 10 hours per week special tuition), Mathematics, General Science, Physical Education and their chosen sport (other subjects as required). The New Zealand Qualifications Authority approved certificates in Tennis, Golf or Cricket allow students to gain learning credits in their chosen sport.
Students will be in small classes, with considerable individual tuition. If they meet the required criteria, Academy students may apply for enrolment in the full College programme.
Students will receive a graduation certificate from the College, at the end of the year, at a special ceremony to which parents and caregivers will be invited. On achievement of the acceptable level of fluency in English, students will receive an internationally accepted certificate of English competence and, where acceptable academic standards have been achieved, receive the appropriate qualification under NCEA levels 1-3, the New Zealand National Qualification.
Academy Year This runs from the beginning of February each year until graduation in early December. Vacations occur in April (2 weeks), July (2 weeks) and September/October (2 weeks). In New Zealand the seasons are reversed from those of the Northern Hemisphere and occur as follows:
Summer: January - March Autumn: April - June Winter: July - September Spring: October - December
