Cargill Claims House Relays Double

November 22, 2015 at 9:11 PM

The house relay race competition is an afternoon when friendships are put aside, classroom allegiances left behind and house loyalty comes to the fore! The Boys’ School was joined by the Girls’ School students for the final athletics event of the year. Teams of four from each House were selected featuring the top runners from each year level, based on results from sprint races at Junior, Middle and Senior School athletics days. Having the fastest runners isn’t necessarily a guarantee of relay success, however, with time and places to be gained with a clean and efficient baton exchange! With every race win, the victorious House would belt out their chant and fly their flags. As well as the on track action, points were also up for grabs during two dance-offs to the tunes of DJ for the day Reverend Reuben Hardie and adjudicated by Boys’ School Principal Mr Peter Cassie.

There were no house points up for grabs in the final race of the day, but it was just as spirited as those before it. The six-team race pitted Boys’ and Girls’ School students, parents from both of the Schools, and the quickest teachers from each of the campuses against one another. With plenty of bragging rights on the line, the Boys’ School teachers came out on top ahead of their students’ team.

When the final results were tallied, Cargill had a double dose of success, winning both the boys’ and girls’ competitions! Congratulations to the Cargill boys and girls!
